“There’s a Generation of Women Who Are Starving to be told I Love You again; and that generation of women deserve to be vulnerable and celebrated, within the safe musical space we delivered in the style of New Jack Swing and R&B, the music that didn't call them outside of their names, or belittle them in the lyrics.”

Big picture: Al B. Sure!™ has written and produced for Jodeci, Usher, 112 and Tevin Campbell. His own catalog includes RIAA 2× Platinum for In Effect Mode (July 26, 2001) and Gold for Private Times … and the Whole 9 (January 8, 1991).[11]
On Jodeci's 1991 debut Forever My Lady (Uptown/MCA), Al B. Sure! served as Executive Producer alongside Andre Harrell and Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs.[12][18] With DeVante Swing he co-wrote and co-produced “Forever My Lady” and “Come and Talk to Me,” and co-produced “Stay,” “I'm Still Waiting,” “U&I” and “My Phone (Doesn't Ring Anymore).”[12] For Tevin Campbell he created “Alone With You,” “Goodbye,” and “Confused,” and co-wrote “Just Ask Me To,” featuring Chubb Rock, from the Boyz n the Hood soundtrack.[12][16] Chosen by Quincy Jones as a 1988 Sony Innovator, he later joined Jones on the romantic anthem “The Secret Garden (Sweet Seduction Suite)” from Back on the Block, featuring Al B. Sure!, James Ingram, El DeBarge and Barry White.[12][21] He also duetted with David Bowie on the title track of Black Tie White Noise (Savage Records, 1993).[22] For 112's 1996 Bad Boy debut 112, he co-wrote and produced “This Is Your Day” with Kyle West, also handling vocal arrangement, engineering and mixing.[19]
Al B. Sure!™ discovered Faith Evans and paid her $2,500 a week to hone her singing, songwriting and production skills, giving her her first paycheck in the music industry, and later introduced her to Sean "Puffy" Combs and took no commission on the introduction. Press accounts confirm she worked as a demo and backing singer for Al B. Sure!™ before Combs signed her as Bad Boy Records' first female artist.[13][14] She went on to become known as the First Lady of Bad Boy.[15]
“Nite and Day” reached No. 1 on Billboard's Hot Black Singles chart and No. 7 on the Hot 100, and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance.[7][8] Today he pairs that music legacy with national advocacy for transplant patients.
Transplant equity advocacy
Al B. Sure!™ received a life-saving liver transplant at Houston Methodist Hospital in the summer of 2022.[1] He served as Executive Chairman of the Health Equity in Transplantation Coalition (HEiTC) and is listed as Executive Chairman (RET) following his retirement from the coalition in August 2025;[20] the coalition's Congressional and transplant-equity record remains intact, with civil rights icon Rev. Al Sharpton as Senior Advisor.[2]
Through the coalition, he and his coalition partners advocated for and pressed the Biden Administration and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to restore Medicare coverage of vital blood tests that detect early signs of organ rejection, without tying that coverage to invasive biopsies.[2][3] In December 2023 he spoke at a Capitol Hill press conference during Honor the Gift Action Days, where transplant patients, physicians, and lawmakers asked President Biden and HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra to urgently intervene and reverse the coverage decision.[4][5] On February 29, 2024, CMS issued an updated statement and billing article clarifying patients' access to these tests.[6]
He is also an ambassador for the American Liver Foundation's Liver Life Walk.[1]
